Inspiration was drawn from the topography of the site, which is located in a dale and with the change in level of around 20m across the site, offers stunning views to Mount Meru.

In addition the the geographical inspiration, cultural references were drawn from the traditional Maasai form of dwelling; circular huts within a circular enclosure which echo the ‘circles within circles’ of the volcanic crater of Mount Meru.

There is also a wonderful Mlumba Tree in the southeast corner of the site which, in addition to its medicinal properties, offer the local people a place of ‘conference’ in its shelter from the sun.

Tanzanite, a precious stone found only in the foothills of mount Kilimanjaro, was drawn upon to provide an aesthetic device.
